Australian Select Timbers has a full range of floor cleaning and maintenance solutions that are tailored specifically for cleaning timber flooring, laminate flooring, hybrid, vinyl, and even tiled floors. Floor maintenance and care is imperative to ensure your floors remain beautiful and in good condition for many years to come. With proper maintenance, a floor’s life can be extended so that you make the most out of what can be one of the largest investments in your home.
Cleaning a timber floor
Cleaning a timber floor requires a little knowledge and the correct cleaning products. It is important to know what surface coating the flooring is finished with to ensure that the cleaning and preventative maintenance is suited to the floor. For example, in our timber flooring collections, some surfaces are finished with a hard-wearing UV Lacquer and others with a Hard Wax Oil surface.
Prior to cleaning your floor, all dust and debris should be removed so it does not settle into the timbers grain after the cleaner is applied. Timber flooring should never be cleaned with harsh solvents such as citrus based cleaners or methylated spirits.
Hard Wax Oil Finishes
Cleaning a timber floor with a hard wax oil finish requires some special care to ensure that the finish is not damaged. Here are some tips to properly clean a timber floor with a hard wax oil finish:
- Use our SelectCare+ Mop and Microfibre Cleaning pad with the Wax Oil Floor Cleaner. This product does not require dilution and will remove excess debris and surface stains from traffic and spills on the floor.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or steam mops on a timber floor with a hard wax oil finish, as these can strip away the protective layer and damage the wood and even further could void your warranty.
- Wipe up any spills or stains immediately with a damp cloth to prevent them from seeping into the wood and causing damage.
- After cleaning the floor, make sure to dry it thoroughly with a dry, cleaning pad to prevent water damage and to remove excess moisture.
UV Lacquer finishes
To clean a UV lacquer finish flooring, our SelectCare+ Spray Mop and Hard Floor Cleaner kit can be used daily to clean the surface. This will remove stains, excess dirt and footprints that are present on the floor from daily traffic.
- Always ensure the hard floor brush is engaged whilst vacuuming to avoid scratching the surface of the flooring.
- If spills occur, they must be wiped up with a clean cloth as soon as possible to prevent water damage or heavy stains settling onto the floors surface.
- After cleaning, it is recommended to dry the floor with a clean and dry microfiber pad to remove excess moisture.
Periodic Maintenance
Periodic maintenance is an important part of caring for your timber floor. Our SelectCare+ Rejuvenator and RejuvenatorPlus can be used on UV Lacquer finishes to refresh your flooring every 6 to 12 months. This product is not suitable for Hard Wax Oil finishes as it will damage and remove the surfaces coating.
SelectCare+ Rejevunator is used to refresh floors that have become worn and tired over time. It must be used in conjunction with the RejuvenatorPlus as this will provide a new protective coating to the floor and will assist in maintaining the original look of the floor without the requirement of sanding, buffing, or re-lacquering the floor.
